Restaurants with wiggle room

If you’re looking for restaurants with some outdoor space to allow your kids to run around whilst you wait for your food, here are five of our favourites. Book a table outside and let the kids play.

  1. Roma Sparita, Trastevere
    Piazza di Santa Cecilia, 24
Roman classics sitting in a quiet piazza by Basilica Santa Cecilia.

  2. Trattoria Da Luigi, Centro
    Piazza Sforza Cesarini, 23/24
With an extensive menu, this trattoria also serves pizza at lunch. Set in a tree-lined piazza blocked off from the street.

  3. Vivi Bistrot, Monteverde/Villa Pamphili
    Villa Doria Pamphili
Immersed in the park and next door to a playground, the setting is idyllic. The food here is international modern: hamburgers, stir-fries and organic rice bowls. They also serve an American-style brunch. (Service can be slow.)

  4. Taverna Agape, Centro
Piazzetta di Vicolo di S. Simeone, 26
Upmarket Italian food with a twist. Set in a sweet little piazza with a fountain.

  5. Checchino dal 1887, Testaccio
    Via di Monte Testaccio, 30
Known for it’s offal, (being opposite the old butchery) but with plenty of regular Roman dishes as well. Set opposite a piazza and the entry to the Mattatoio, the historic slaughterhouse now gallery and green market with historic buildings begging for redevelopment.
